SF Hosts Free To Learn: Education in Prison Ethics Slam

SF Hosts Free To Learn: Education in Prison Ethics Slam

March 21, 2023 – Santa Fe College hosts the “Free to Learn: Education in Prison” Ethics Slam, Wednesday, March 22 from 12-1:30 p.m. in building S room 326 on the NW Campus. Subs and snacks will be provided.

We invite you to engage in some fast-paced, constructive dialogue about incarceration’s ethical, humanitarian dimensions.  In particular, this Ethics Slam will allow participants to wrestle with questions pertaining to the role of education in prisons, such as Are there risks to providing education to those incarcerated?  Do the aims of college prison programs run counter to the aims of American prisons? What are the responsibilities of higher education institutions, such as Santa Fe College, to provide educational opportunities to those incarcerated?

The aim of an Ethics Slam is to encourage civil discourse, increase understanding of a complex ethical issue that impacts all of us, promote active listening, generate rich conversations, let diverse voices be heard, and foster a respectful community.  We hope you’ll join us for this event!
