ABFS Hosts Juneteenth Event at Blount Hall

May 12, 2023 – The Santa Fe College Association of Black Faculty and Staff host Juneteenth: Rejoice, Reflect, Remember, Thursday, June 15 at Blount Hall.

Juneteenth is a national holiday and a celebration to marking the end of slavery. The observation dates back to 1865 when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas to read the federal order abolishing slavery. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, it took until June 19, 1865, to reach Texas, the most remote state in the Confederacy.

This year’s celebration at Blount Hall includes food trucks, arts and crafts, an educational historical tour, youth activities, vendors, information about SF programs and live entertainment. A Gospel Extravaganza begins at 6 p.m. and will feature a combined choir of Santa Fe College students, faculty and staff, as well as performances by community members.

Come join the fun!
