SF Sponsors Event Sep. 21 to Support Staff in Learning to Care for Elderly Relatives

Sep. 12, 2023 – Santa Fe College Human Resources reports that many SF employees are currently caring for elderly relatives and many more will do so in the future. SF is partnering with Community Hospice and Gainesville Black Professionals to provide our community with the resources and support to prepare for the future. The free event will be held Thursday, Sep. 21 at 4:45 p.m. in building R, room 01. Dinner will be served. The event is free and open to the public. Seats are limited and registration is required at bit.ly/PlanningForTheFutureExpo.

Superintendent Kenyarda Feathers is a member of the SF East Gainesville Initiative and he brought this proposal to host the free expo at SF.

Vice President Naima Brown says, “While we know it is our responsibility to care for those who cared for us, we do not always take the time to learn about the resources that are available in our community so that we can be effective. The truth is that we are not alone and this expo is about making sure our college community is well-equipped and prepared.”

Topics to be discussed include: Caring for Those Who Cared for Us, Advanced Care Planning, What is Hospice and What is Palliative Care.
