We’re Here to Help: SF Fitness Center

January 9, 2024 – It might be easy to overlook Santa Fe College’s Fitness Center. After all, many of us do not have the time or motivation for exercise. Some of us don’t even know the center exists.

“You would be surprised how many students don’t know about it,” Tyler Hagin, SF Fitness Center Manager said. “While at tabling events or just when speaking to students, they sometimes just don’t know that they have this resource for them right on campus.”

According to Hagin, “the Fitness Center is important because it is a place for students, faculty and staff to be able to get away from studying and/or work for a little bit without having to go too far. We are a valuable resource for them on right on campus.”

Hagin also stressed the importance of fitness itself. “It can improve things like memory, attention, motivation and cognitive performance while also helping to reduce stress, anxiety and depression.”

Located on SF’s Northwest Campus to the east of the Teaching Zoo and Little School, the Fitness Center is a full gym with free weights, cardio machines, and everything else you need to get an energizing workout.

The Fitness Center is accessible at no cost to all current SF students, as well as currently employed faculty and staff. Please present your valid SFID for entry.

Hagin likes seeing students, faculty and staff make exercising at the Fitness Center part of their daily routines, especially in a post-COVID world.

“I started three weeks before COVID hit,” Hagin said, “and so once we were allowed back on campus, it was a slow build back up in terms of getting people comfortable going back to the gym again.

“So now that we are almost four years removed from that, it has been very rewarding to see all the students who come in and enjoy working out here. And over the last couple of years, you can see some of the progress that people have made by working out here, and that is why I love managing this gym: because you can see how fitness and exercise has truly impacted their lives.”
