SF Men’s Basketball: Saints Lose a Nailbiter by 2 Points

A basketball swooshing into a hoop

January 22, 2024 – Saints fans were treated to a thriller last Saturday. Santa Fe College hosted the Polk State College Eagles at the SF Gym. The evenly matched teams needed a victory since both have been on losing streaks.

The Saints took control from the beginning, leading the first half 44-41. The Eagles took to the air and fought back. A last second shot propelled the Eagles to a 84-82 victory.

“Tough loss today,” Saints Head Coach Chris Mowry said. “I thought we really played hard and competed with Polk the whole game. We got off to great start offensively, then started to turn the ball over, which gave Polk a chance to make it close at the half. It was a very tight game the entire second half. We did a super job in the last 25 seconds to tie the game up and use our two fouls to cut the clock to 3.5 seconds. We defended their in-bound play well, but they were able to throw up a shot and it went in.”

The Saints host the Florida Southwestern State College Buccaneers on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Game time is 7 p.m.
