April 16, 2024 – Declaring it a very important day in the life of Santa Fe College, President Dr. Paul Broadie II celebrated the development of the new Student Engagement Center on the Northwest Campus.

“This is all about students,” he said. “It is a place for information sharing, learning, collaborating. It is a place for bonding, networking and practice.”

The Student Engagement Center, located on the second floor of Building S above Student Life, is a large space with multiple meeting and event spaces and as well as space to lounge with access to a computer lab. It was created to ensure all clubs and student organizations at the College had a dedicated home. Further, the College is in the process of hiring a Student Activities Specialist to help clubs fully utilize the space and coordinate activities.

“The magic of containing all of the clubs on one floor is the opportunity to collaborate with each other, take part in each other’s events and bring attention to each other’s programs,” Broadie said.

Ultimately, he said, the work that happens in the Student Engagement Center will bring value to their lives as global citizens and workforce leaders, where communications, collaboration and innovation are valued.

Kevin Savoi, a My Brother’s Keeper diplomat, said he was excited about the possibilities of the new space.

“As a student government events chair, I noticed that it’s hard to communicate sometimes, but the collaboration is there,” he said. “We have so many students who want to be engaged and want to be involved.”

Fellow diplomat Chris Ostagne thanked Dr. Broadie and other college leaders for wanting to bring unity among students and staff.

The College will spend the next few months building out the space to both meet student needs and to make the space welcoming and vibrant.
