March 20, 2018 – The Santa Fe Winds will present the annual “Winds Go Pops” concert featuring show tunes from Broadway and the movies at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in the Santa Fe College Fine Arts Hall.
Tickets are $15 general admission; $9 for seniors, children and University of Florida students; and free for SF students, faculty and staff with valid SF ID. For ticket information, call the SF Box Office at 352-395-4181 or visit the SF Fine Arts ticket website at sfcollege.edu/finearts.
“Come help us celebrate the great American show tunes!” exclaimed Music Professor and SF Band Director Dr. Steve Bingham, Ph.D., who will conduct the student musicians.
Band members meet twice a week to rehearse with Bingham. “The wind ensemble is smaller than a full orchestra,” he explained, “so we have one or two people playing a part instead of the 10 to 12 people in an orchestra. Playing in a small wind ensemble is tougher on the musicians because they can’t hide!” Students are graded in part based on their participation in the concert.
This year’s program includes music from the Broadway productions “Les Miserables,” “Hamilton” and “Wicked.”
Selections from the movies include “The Rebellion Is Reborn” from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Mambo” from “West Side Story” and “Bolero” from “10.”
“Winds Go Pops” is sponsored in part by Santa Fe College, SF Student Life, and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and Visit Gainesville, a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in conjunction with the Alachua County Tourist Development Council.
