The Larry G. Shahboz Memorial Summer Swing Dance To Benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

8-11 p.m. July 25 at the Thelma Boltin Center

Santa Fe Professor Marc Shahboz (Digital Media) will be hosting a charity swing dance on July 25 at the Thelma Boltin Center from 8 to 11 p.m. to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There will be lots of dancing and fun, a free lesson at 8:30 p.m. and swing demonstrations.

Ticket donations are $10 general and $7 student and available online at http://www.shahboz.com/swing. You can also make donations online if you can’t make the event.

Larry G. Shahboz (Marc’s father) was an avid swing dancer as a youth. He and his sister, Judy, danced up and down the East Coast tearing up dance floors and winning a few contests in the process.

Later in life, both Larry and Judy were diagnosed with blood cancers. Sadly, Larry lost his battle with multiple myeloma in 2005, but his sister remains in remission after going through treatment for leukemia.

The dance serves as a way to memorialize Marc’s father and raise awareness and funds to research, find new treatments and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and provide critical education, services and support to patients and families battling these cancers.
