Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo Closed for Tours Friday and Saturday in Preparation for Boo at the Zoo

The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo will be closed for regular zoo tours on Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31 in preparation for the zoo’s Halloween event.

The 15th Annual Boo at the Zoo, Saturday, Oct. 31, runs from from 3 to 7:30 p.m. and features the zoo decorated in Halloween themes such as Grimm’s Fairytales, Haunted Mansion, Creepy Carnival, and Classic Movie Monsters. Costumed zookeepers at 12 candy stations give out candy to trick or treaters and answer questions about the animals. There are also games for children in the clearing in front of the zoo.

People of all ages are invited to Boo at the Zoo. Admission is one canned good per person for donation to area food banks.

Last year, more than 6,000 visitors attended Boo at the Zoo and over 100,000 pieces of candy were distributed. This year, guests will have a unique opportunity to submit a name for the zoo’s new baby capuchin monkey.

“It’s too young to determine its gender at this time so we are looking for a unisex name such as Tracy,” said Kathy Russell, curator.
