SAINTS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT GAME TO SJRCC, 12-3
Gainesville, FL – St. John’s River (13-11, 2-0 MFC) used a six run seventh inning to pull away from the Santa Fe Saints (9-9, 0-2 MFC) on Friday afternoon, dropping SF to 0-2 to start the Mid-Florida Conference season.
Jeff Moyer provided the only Saints highlight, blasting a two run homerun after TJ Spina singled with two outs, to give SF a 2-1 lead. Santa Fe tacked on one more run in the fourth on a bases loaded walk, but couldn’t slow down the SJRCC offense after that, allowing 11 unanswered runs. The Vikings have scored a combined 20 runs in their last two games against the Saints.
The Santa Fe defense struggled mightily, committing eight errors for the second time this season. Only four of the SJRCC runs were earned by the Saints pitchers.
Gary Merians started on the mound and gave up eight runs, only two earned , in six innings of work. He struck out three and walked two. Steven Ragans pitched one inning in relief and gave up two hits, both homeruns. Jake Stridfeldt and Ricky Claudio pitched a perfect eighth and ninth inning.
Jeff Moyer finished 2-for-5 with a HR and two RBI, TJ Spina was 2-for-2 with two walks, Mike Miranda was 2-for-5 and Ricky Claudio finished 2-for-5. The Saints had 10 hits as a team.
SF travels to Seminole State College on Saturday for a MFC game at 1:00pm. The Saints will return home for a game on Monday against Seminole at 3:00pm.
