SANTA FE CLINCHES MFC TITLE WITH WIN OVER LSCC, 8-6

Leesburg, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (24-14, 15-7 MFC) won a rain shortened game against Lake Sumter CC on Monday afternoon and in the process clinched their second straight Mid-Florida Conference title and third in the last four years.  BOX SCORE

The Saints carried an 8-6 lead into the seventh inning when the rain and lightning came, forcing a delay that turned into a final since the game was past five innings.  The game was called in the bottom of the seventh, but the official score went back to the last full inning, the sixth.

Ken Wise started the game on the mound and pitched six innings surrendering six runs, with only one earned.  Jeff Moyer (pictured) drove in four of the Saints eight runs.

Santa Fe scored first, putting two on the board in the first inning on an RBI by Brett Bozeman, but LSCC answered back, scoring three runs on no hits, one error and three wild pitches.

In the top of the second, Jeff Moyer put the Saints back on top with his eleventh homerun of the season, a three run shot to right field.   Moyer drove in another run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 6-3.

The Saints lead didn’t last long as the Lakers scored three in the fourth on three hits and two SF errors.

In the fifth inning, Santa Fe capitalized with runners in scoring position, scoring two runs on two hits.  Austin Lawrence drove in the first with a sac fly and TJ Spina singled home Corey Elasik with two outs for the eighth run of the game.

Wise held LSCC scoreless the next two innings until the rains came in the seventh, forcing the early end to the game.

Jeff Moyer finished the game 2-for-4 with a homerun and four RBI, Bozeman was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Lawrence, Spina and Ricky Claudio each had two hits.

The win clinches SF the MFC title and a spot in the FCCAA State Tournament in Lakeland (Joker Marchant Stadium) on May 6-10.  Their first round game is on May 6 at 7:00pm against a team TBD.

The Saints have two regular season games remaining, both at home.  The first is on Wednesday at 3:00pm against Daytona and the regular season finale is on Friday against Central Florida CC at 3:00pm.
