Passings: Avine Koon

Passings: Avine Koon

The campus community is saddened to learn of the recent death of former SF employee Avine Koon. She began working at Santa Fe in June 1986 as an administrative assistant and retired in May 2004 as student support manager.

Many of Avine’s SF friends had warm memories to share. Maureen Malden, financial aid specialist, said “Avine and I were lunch buddies for over 10 years and we never ran out of fun things to talk about. She always made me laugh, especially when she know how stressful it was for me at times. Avine will always remain my dear friend.”

Carol Wilson, compensation support specialist, added: “She was a real team player and always had a smile and a kind word. I will miss her.”  Vernon Singleton, Student Support Services director/coordinator, said “You will never meet anyone who is any more kind, gracious or loving than Ms. Avine.”

And Jon Cowart, Student Affairs assistant vice president, was also an Avine fan: “Ms. Avine captured the hearts of so many people. I am glad I had the time to see a true picture of real love, which she embodied.”
