SF MEN’S BASKETBALL
CENTRAL FLORIDA HANDS SAINTS ANOTHER CLOSE LOSS, 72-68
Ocala, FL – The College of Central Florida (19-4, 5-0 MFC) again had Santa Fe’s number on Monday night, clipping the Saints by four points for the second time this season, 72-68. In the team’s first meeting on January 5 in Gainesville, the Patriots pulled out an 82-78 victory.
SF (16-8, 3-3 MFC) led by as many as 12 points in the second period, but couldn’t close the game out down the stretch. A late CCF three pointer put Santa Fe down by two with under 30 seconds to go and a missed layup on the ensuing possession sealed the Saints fate.
“We had some good looks at the end, we just didn’t capitalize,” said SF coach Chris Mowry. “I’m proud of the effort from our guys tonight. I think this was one of our better efforts over the last month, it just didn’t go our way.”
Eddie D’Haiti led SF in scoring with 16 and had five rebounds, Jerome Clyburn scored 14, Marko Djekovic had 12 points and five rebounds and Branimir Mikulic finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Saints have a quick turnaround as they return to action on Wednesday at home against Florida State College at Jacksonville at 8:00pm. For the fans that cannot make it out to the Santa Fe Gym, the game can be watched live on www.psblive.com.
