SAINTS FACE MIAMI DADE IN FIRST ROUND OF FCCAA STATE TOURNAMENT ON MARCH 2
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (17-12, 9-3 MFC) travel to Marianna, FL on March 2 for the 40th Annual Women’s FCCAA /NJCAA Region VIII State Tournament on March 2-5 where they will look to win their first state tournament game since 1985. The Saints play the final game of day one at 8:00 PM CST (9:00 PM EST). Fans can watch live on www.psblive.com.
This is the fifth straight appearance for SF. Three of their previous four first round matchups (2007-10) have come against the eventual State Champion or runner-up.
The Mid-Florida Conference champion and #1 seed Saints first round opponent is Southern Conference third seed Miami-Dade College. The Sharks finished the regular season with an 11-14 overall record and a 5-3 mark in conference play. The two teams met on November 20 at the College of Central Florida Tournament in Ocala with the Saints pulling out an 85-77 victory and again on December 3 at the Florida Colleges Shootout where SF won 85-76.
“Miami is a very good team that rebounds well and plays hard,” said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. “It’s tough to beat a team three times in one season and we know we will have our hands full on March 2.”
