SAINTS WIN GAME ONE, SPLIT WITH SCF 9-0 AND 4-2

Gainesville, FL – Colena Lazar (5-3) shut the State College of Florida Manatees down in game one of a double header on Tuesday afternoon and the Santa Fe offense supplied more than enough runs in a 9-0 win. SCF bounced back in game two, scoring two runs in the first inning in route to a 4-2 victory.

Erika Garcia opened the scoring for NJCAA #10/FCCAA #8 Santa Fe (11-5) in the first game, blasting a two run homerun to center field in the second inning for the 2-0 lead.

The Saints added three in the third on a two RBI double by Alaysia Miller and an error by SCF and four more in the fourth to put the game away. Ashley Holton led off with a double, Jasmine Warren followed with a single and Jaimee Vega worked the count for a walk. Ashley Curry cleared the bases with a double to the fence in centerfield to make the score 9-0.

Colena Lazar shut the door in the fifth to lock up the mercy rule victory. She struck out seven Manatee batters and gave up just one hit.

The Manatees answered early in game two, plating two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Megan Alligood. SCF scored again in the fifth to make the score 3-0. Jamiee Vega got the Saints on the board in the bottom of the fifth when she laced a double to center field, scoring Colleen Leebove.

State College of Florida made the score 4-1 in the seventh and Erika Garcia did her best to bring SF back in the bottom of the inning with her second homerun of the day, but the rally fell short.

Garcia finished the day 3-for-5 with two homeruns and three RBI, Colleen Leebove was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Ashley Curry finished 2-for-5 with four RBI and Ashley Holton was 3-for-5.

The Saints travel to Panama Beach on March 4-6 for the NFCA Leadoff Classic. They battle Spartanburg Methodist College (SC) on Friday at 5:00 PM and immediately following take on Muskegon CC (MI) at 7:30 PM. On Saturday SF plays Johnson County CC (KS) at 10:00 AM and Sunday’s game will be determined based on results from Friday and Saturday.
