Saucy BBQ Documentary Set to Make Splash on the Big Screen, Aug. 4

“Grills Gone Wild – From the Backyard to Backstage” is a new documentary produced by Chappell Films and focusing on Santa Fe’s annual barbecue festival in Bradford County.

This 60-minute in-depth look “behind the sauce – er – um – scenes” at a professional BBQ Championship event was filmed in Starke during the 3rd annual Boots ‘n BBQ competition in February 2011.

The made-for-television movie is hosted by national headlining act and ‘Bad Boy of Comedy’ Alex Ortiz. Also featured in the film are World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Pinklon Thomas, World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion Dory Funk Jr., and Southern Rock Legend Jimmie Van Zant.

Screening information

For its world premier, the film will journey back to its roots and debut Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Twin Theater in downtown Starke, 101 West Call St. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the screening begins promptly at 5:45 p.m. Admission is $5 cash at the door and includes one popcorn and drink. Cowbys Steakhouse will be on site selling BBQ prior to the screening and Chrissy’s Old Meeting House and Café will host an after party with desserts and beverages, where you can meet the cast and crew.
