SAINTS CRUISE PAST THE ROCK, 86-30

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #9 Santa Fe Saints (6-12) made quick work of The Rock School on Tuesday evening, defeating the Lions 86-30 in their last tune-up before Mid-Florida Conference play on January 7.

The game was never in question as SF staked themselves to a 48-18 halftime lead thanks to a 36-11 run midway through the period, led by string inside play from Shanice Clark and Cassandra Brown.

The Saints opened the second half on a 16-0 run to push the lead out to 66-18 with 12:45 to play. Coach Chanda Stebbins cleared the bench and the Santa Fe reserves added to the lead over the final 12 minutes, finishing the 86-30 victory.

Twelve different Saints scored, led by 14 from Stephanie Edwards. Shanice Clark turned in one of the best games of her career, posting a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, Stephenie Coney scored 12 to go with three assists and four rebounds, Katura Harrison scored nine, Lydia Cuff had eight points and six rebounds, and Cassandra Brown pitched in eight points and 12 rebounds.

“It was nice to see Cassandra and Shanice dominate the glass tonight,” said Stebbins. “We were able to get everyone some minutes and experience and that will help us in the long run.”

Santa Fe outrebounded the Lions 64-35 and put up a season high 90 shots in the winning effort. With the non-conference season behind them, the Saints will now look to January 7 and the beginning of their MFC title defense when they take on College of Central Florida at 5:30 PM.

“We are excited about starting MFC play on Saturday,” said Stebbins. “The real season starts and we are ready to go to Ocala and try and get a win. This is historically a great matchup and I don’t anticipate this year to be any different. We have been preparing for January 7 all season and every one of our players is ready to go.”
