STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA HANDS SANTA FE TWO LOSSES, 1-0 AND 3-1
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints continued their early season struggles on Tuesday against State College of Florida, dropping a double header 1-0 and 3-1. The losses move SF to 4-7.
“Considering we haven’t played in two weeks I saw a lot of positive things out there today,” said SF coach Chris Ahern. “Hopefully as we start to play more regularly we will see more and more improvement each game.”
The Saints had a chance late in game one, with runners on first and second and second baseman Layne McDermond at the plate. McDermond nailed a single to center field, her second hit of the game, but a perfect throw from the Manatee outfielder nailed runner Biance Torres at the plate, preserving the 1-0 win for SCF.
Booker finished 2-for-2 on the game and Amber Richardson was the hard luck loser for Santa Fe. She scattered seven hits over seven innings and allowed just a lone run in the fifth.
Booker gave Santa Fe the early lead in game two, belting a homerun in the first inning. That would be the only hit for the Saints as SCF pitcher Paige Matthews settled in and no hit SF the rest of the way, striking out 10.
The Saints are back in action at Tallahassee CC on Thursday, February 23 at 4:00 PM.
