SANTA FE OFFENSE EXPLODES IN 10-0 WIN OVER DAYTONA

Daytona, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (18-6, 2-0 MFC) pounded out 10 runs on 17 hits in a seven innings, shutout mercy rule win over the Daytona State Falcons Saturday afternoon.  Drew Doty nailed a three run homerun and Shane Kennedy hit a two run shot to pace the offense.

Ryan Yarbrough (5-0) started on the mound and pitched five shutout innings, shrinking his ERA to a microscopic 0.47.  He has allowed just two earned runs in 38 innings pitched with 39 strikeouts.  Josh Larson completed the shutout victory with two shutout innings of work.  The two pitchers combined to allow just three hits.

“Ryan didn’t have his best day in terms of his stuff, but fought through it to give us five shutout innings,” said SF coach Johnny Wiggs.  “Offensively we did a nice job driving in runs when we had guys on base and kept the pressure up all game.”

The FCSAA #1/NJCAA #7 Saints opened the scoring up in the first with three quick runs.  Mallex Smith started things off with a double, Shane Kennedy followed with a double of his own and Drew Doty singled to make it 2-0 before an out was recorded.  Three batters later Tim Remes knocked Doty in with a two out single for the 3-0 lead.

In the third Santa Fe tacked on two more runs to their lead.  Kennedy led off with a triple and Doty brought him in with a single to right field.  Two batters later Caleb Denmark singled to give SF a 5-0 advantage.

Doty continued his hot hitting in the fifth when he blasted a three run homer.  Shane Kennedy made it double digits with a two run blast an inning later and Larson shut the door in the seventh for the mercy rule win.

Mallex Smith finished a great day at the plate 4-for-5 with three runs scored, Doty was 3-for-4 with a homerun, five RBI and three runs scored, Kennedy finished 3-for-4 with a homerun, three RBI and four runs  and Remes was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

The Saints play a non-conference home double header on Monday, March 5 against St. Petersburg College at 12:00 PM.
