CENTRAL FLORIDA RALLIES PAST SANTA FE, 3-1
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (20-7, 2-1 MFC) struggled to get anything going on offense, managing just one run on five hits Friday afternoon against the College of Central Florida in a 3-1 loss. The win puts CF (18-9, 5-0 MFC) in the driver’s seat in the Mid-Florida Conference standings at 5-0. The Saints are now 2-1 in MFC play.
Trey Griffin broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Shane Kennedy. CF answered in the top of the seventh with two runs off of SF reliever Felix Roque.
Roque entered the game for started Brad Markey (4-3, 1.43 ERA) with runners on first and third and walked back to back batters to tie the score at 1-1. Patriot hitter Justin Burgess then stepped in and singled on a sharp ground ball to the pitcher’s mound to give Central Florida their first lead of the game.
The Patriots added an insurance run in the eighth and held the Saints scoreless over the final two innings for their fifth win in a row.
Kennedy was the lone SF player with multiple hits finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored. The Saints were out hit 13-5.
Santa Fe will get another shot at Central Florida on Saturday, March 10 when they travel to Ocala for a 1:00 PM game against the Patriots.
