MAYHILL AND THE SAINTS DEFEAT SEMINOLE 7-5 TO SET UP DECISIVE ATLANTIC DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP AT 1:45 PM EST
Pensacola, FL – Brittney Mayhill started things off for the Saints with three run homer in the second inning and Erika Garcia and Shannen Marchu pitched their way through seven innings to earn the victory. Garcia started and pitched 5.2 innings and Marchu threw 1.2 perfect innings for the save. The Saints and Raiders will now meet again at approximately 1:45 PM EST for the Atlantic District title. The winner advances on to the NJCAA tournament in Utah and also plays for the FCSAA state title later today against State College of Florida.
Seminole made things interesting in the fifth when they scored three runs off three Santa Fe errors to tie the score at 5-5. The Saints immediately answered in the top of the sixth. Karla Claudio doubled to knock in the first run and Ashley Holton followed with a shot just past the shortstop to plate Mayhill.
Marchu closed the door in the sixth and seventh to seal the victory.
The Saints eight and nine hitters were a combined 4- for-6. Bianca Torres was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Brittney Mayhill, hitting ninth, was 2-for-3 with the first homer of her career and three RBI. Claudio and Garcia also had two hits apiece.
