SF BASKETBALL – 11/26/2012
Gainesville, FL – Bobby Hunter played another stellar game on Monday night, scoring 33 points to lead the Saints past Hillsborough CC 76-60. The win moves the Saints to 5-2. HCC falls to 3-4.
“This was a good win against a physical Hillsborough team,” said SF Coach Chris Mowry. “They played hard and really got after us on defense. We started off ok, but got a little sloppy and gave them some easy baskets.”
Santa Fe jumped out to an early 9-0 before the Hawks finally got on the board at the 15:50 mark to make it 9-2. HCC rallied all the way back and cut the margin to one, 26-25 with 3:45 remaining in the first half. Roody St. Germain capped a wild half with a put back layup to put Santa Fe up 34-29 at the break.
The second period was back and forth for most of the half until a 9-0 run starting at the 8:35 mark for SF broke the game open and gave the Saints a 68-53 advantage. The Hawks were never able to recover and four free throws by Bobby Hunter in the last minute put the game away.
“We adjusted well at half time,” said Mowry. “Our guys responded by taking better shots and taking better care of the ball. We were unselfish, finished at the free throw line and really got after it on the boards.”
Santa Fe outrebounded HCC 56-35. Takija Knight was a force all night in the paint for SF pulling down a career high 14 rebounds.
Hunter’s 33 points led all scorers and Deonte Moore joined him in double figures with 11.
The Saints travel to Marianna on Friday, November 30 to battle Chipola College at 9:00 PM EST and continue in Marianna at the Holiday Shootout on Saturday against Tallahassee CC at 5:00 PM EST.
