SF BASKETBALL

Gainesville, FL – Bobby Hunter led the Santa Fe Saints to a big upset win over FCSAA #7 Pensacola State College Sunday afternoon at the Florida College Shootout, scoring 28 points on 8-of-19 shooting to get SF back to .500.

The victory snaps a four game losing streak for the Saints (6-6) and is their second over a Panhandle Conference team this season.  The other was an 86-85 win at home against Tallahassee CC on November 9.

Santa Fe jumped out in the early going and led by as many as 14 in the first period.  A late run by Pensacola cut the margin to just one at the halftime break, 33-32.

The Pirates took their first lead since the opening basket of the game with a quick two points to start the second half.  The Saints answered with three free throws by Bobby Hunter to retake the lead, one they would not relinquish.

A three point shot by Chad Milliken with 6:15 remaining pushed the lead to double digits at 56-45.  PSC would not get closer than six the rest of the way as the Saints defense clamped down and held on for the win.

The difference maker in the game came at the free throw line where SF outscored Pensacola 26-3.  The Saints also outrebounded the taller Pirates team 41-32, not allowing PSC many second chance opportunities.

Roody St. Germain turned in his second straight solid performance, scoring 11 points to go with eight big rebounds.  Deonte Moore scored seven points and pulled down six boards and Chad Milliken scored nine.

The Saints will travel to Aiken, South Carolina on Friday and Saturday, December 14 and 15 for the Aiken Tech Classic.  On Friday they battle Spartanburg Methodist at 6:00 PM and on Saturday they play hosts Aiken Tech at 5:00 PM.  Santa Fe returns home on Monday, December 17 for a tilt with St. Petersburg College at 5:00 PM.
