SF WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe College’s Paulina Zaveckaite is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Zaveckaite, a sophomore from Gainesville, Fla., averaged 15.0 points, 18.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.7 blocks in three games during the voting period.
Zaveckaite did her work at the SF Holiday Classic, recording a double-double in all three games. In a win over Prince George’s on December 28, she tallied 14 points and 14 rebounds in a contest that was called with 11:32 remaining in the second half. The next day against two-time defending NJCAA Region 8 champion Pensacola State, she enjoyed one of the best games of her collegiate career – scoring 21 points and pulling down a career-high 25 rebounds – in the Saints’ 67-57 win.
On December 30 against nationally-ranked Gulf Coast State, she had 10 points and 16 rebounds in a narrow 87-79 defeat. For the week, Zaveckaite shot 53.1 percent (17-of-32) from the field and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line.
