Saints Drop MFC Opener to FSC-J 90-81

#1 Monique Bunk scored 22 in the loss to FSC-J

SF WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – 1/5/2013

Jacksonville, FL – Florida State College – Jacksonville guard Sharmayne Edwards was unstoppable Saturday afternoon in the Mid-Florida Conference opener for both the Blue Wave (12-6, 1-0 MFC) and the Santa Fe Saints (12-7, 0-1 MFC), pouring in 43 points to lead FSC-J to a 90-81 victory.

The Saints led in the early going but a 20-0 run by the Blue Wave gave them a 52-39 lead at the break.

Santa Fe chipped away at the lead in the second half and eventually evened things up. They were never able to regain the lead as Sharmayne Edwards answered every SF rally and hit a dagger three point shot with one minute remaining to put the Blue Wave up by six. FSC-J made their free throws down the stretch to ice the win

Paulina Zaveckaite led Santa Fe with 20 point and 15 rebounds, Monique Bunk scored 22 and Jaquasha Sesler had 10.

Santa Fe returns home on Wednesday for a MFC game against Daytona State College at 7:30.
