Gainesville, FL – The Puerto Rican Olympic Committee and Softball Federation recently announced that Santa Fe sophomore fastpitch star Karla Claudio is being honored for her efforts at the most recent Pan-American Games, the Softball World Cup and the Canadian Open as the softball player of the year.

She earned the honor by leading the team at the Pan American Games, hitting .389 with a .611 slugging percentage, .500 on base percentage and seven runs batted in against the top softball talent in the world.  At the World Cup she was the lone Puerto Rican player to get a hit off the United States team.

“We are all extremely proud of Karla and this very well deserved accomplishment,” said Santa Fe Coach Chris Ahern.  “She is a great representation of Puerto Rico and of Santa Fe College.”

Claudio traveled to Condado, Puerto Rico on Sunday, January 27 for the ceremony where she was honored along with the other representatives from each Olympic sport.
