Megan McDonald had a big day for the Saints

SF FASTPITCH

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (4-4) and Tallahassee CC Eagles (5-7) played to a draw on Tuesday afternoon in Gainesville with both teams taking one game of a double header.  The FCSAA #9 Eagles squeaked out game one 3-2 in extra innings and the #10 Saints battled back in game two for a 3-1 victory in game two.

Game one was scoreless through the first four innings before a Brenda Santana solo homerun gave TCC a 1-0 lead.  The Eagles added another run in the fifth and took a 2-0 advantage into the bottom of the seventh.

In the seventh Celeste Bradshaw led off the SF rally with a single and two batters later Sid Masso singled to put runners on first and second.  Galis Lozada followed her up with another single to load the bases. After a force out at home gave TCC two outs, Megan McDonald stepped in and delivered a two out, two run single to tie the score at 2-2 and send it to extra innings.

Tallahassee bounced right back in the top of the eight with a run and the Saints failed to capitalize with runners on second and third, giving TCC the 3-2 win.

Ashley Chapman (2-2) went the distance in the circle for Santa Fe.

Megan McDonald picked up where she left off in game two, blasting a two run homer in the first inning to put the Saints ahead 2-0 early on.  She now has three homeruns and nine RBI through the first eight games of the season.

TCC trimmed the lead to 2-1 with a RBI groundout in the fourth but the Saints answered in the fifth with a run of their own to push the lead back to a two run margin.  At the end of the fifth inning the umpires determined it was too dark to safely continue the game and it was called.

Amber Maxey started in the circle and pitched three innings before giving way to Karla Claudio for the fourth and fifth innings.  Claudio (1-2) earned the win since Maxey did not pitch the necessary four innings to receive credit for the victory as a starting pitcher.

Megan McDonald finished the double header 3-for-5 with a homerun and four RBI, Sid Masso was 2-for-5 and Geena Capatina was 2-for-7.

The Saints continue their home stand on Saturday, February 9 when they welcome South Florida State College for a double header starting at 1:00 PM.
