SF FASTPITCH

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #8 Santa Fe Saints (24-11, 9-1 MFC) needed rallies in both games of a double header on Tuesday afternoon against the #5 College of Central Florida (27-12, 7-3 MFC) as they defeated the Patriots 3-2 in game one and 4-3 in game two.  Santa Fe has won 13 of their last 14 games and seven in a row.

Sid Masso homered in game one to put the Saints on the board first and Celeste Bradshaw played the hero in game two, blasting a two out, seventh inning walk off homerun.  The two wins put SF at the top of the Mid-Florida Conference standings by themselves

Masso put Santa Fe up 1-0 in the third inning of game one with a deep homerun to left, in what would be Santa Fe’s only hit of the game.  Central Florida answered in the sixth with two runs on Santa Fe errors to take the lead 2-1.  The Patriots returned the favor in the bottom of the sixth, surrendering two runs without allowing a hit.  The first SF run scored on a bases loaded walk and the second on a passed ball.

Karla Claudio (11-5) started in the circle game one and struck out 10 over seven innings of work to earn the win.

Central Florida scored three runs in the first four innings of game two and looked to be on their way to a split before a late rally by the Saints spoiled their plans.

The Saints scored two runs in the fifth on back to back doubles by Yanira Sanchez and Celeste Bradshaw to cut the margin to 3-2.  Both runs came with two outs.  In the bottom of the seventh the Patriots put away the first two batters but a single by Sanchez kept the inning alive and brought Bradshaw to the plate.  With two strikes, Bradshaw drove a line drive homerun over the centerfield fence to give the Saints a walk off win.

Bradshaw finished game two 2-for-3 with a double, homerun and three RBI.  Sanchez was also 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Ashley Chapman (5-6) picked up the win pitching in relief of Amber Maxey.

The Saints travel to Daytona State College on Thursday, March 28 for a double header against the Falcons at 4:00 PM.
