Paramedic Students Win First Place at Statewide Critical Care Competition

The Santa Fe College Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program’s paramedic students took first place in the student teams category at the ShandsCair Critical Care ALS Competition held from Tuesday, May 7 to Wednesday, May 8.

Teams comprised of students and EMS and fire/rescue personnel came from all over the state to participate in the annual competition for which the ShandsCair team created several multi-trauma scenarios. Preliminary rounds were hosted at the Kirkpatrick Center and the final rounds were conducted at the University of Florida during the 2013 ShandsCair Critical Care Conference.

The SF team, which consists of Nike Sheffer, John Kalaf, Shannon Pollock and Kelli Pons, also competed at Fire Rescue East in Daytona Beach, Fla. earlier this year. They are currently training for the Bill Shearer International ALS/BLS Competition in July, hosted by the Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource Center in Orlando, Fla.

Congratulations to our EMS students!
