Santa Fe’s ten game winning streak came to an end on Friday evening at the hands of the NJCAA #5/FCSAA #1 team, but not without a fight.  The NJCAA #20/FCSAA #3 Saints (10-1) played step for step with Chipola College (9-1) but came up just short, falling to the Indians 81-75 on their home court.

Chipola turned a close game through the first ten minutes into a 45-30 point half time lead thanks to a 25-10 run to end the half.

The two teams went back and forth to start the second half with Chipola pushing the lead to as many as 17.  Slowly the Saints chipped away until getting it down to as few as four late in the game.  The Indians hung on down the stretch to seal the six point win.

“We struggled a little there towards the end of the half but our guys didn’t hang their heads in the locker room,” said SF Coach Chris Mowry.  “I’m proud of how hard we fought and battled.  We took a lot out of this game and now we need to move past the loss and get ready for Gulf Coast.”

Jonathan Hood led Santa Fe with 19 points, Takija Knight had 14, Josh Huntley 9, Salim Gloyd 8, and Shea Jones 7, all in the second half.

Santa Fe will play Gulf Coast State College on Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m. at Chipola College on the second day of the Panhandle Classic.
