SF WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Saints freshman forward Jocelyn Mousty turned in her best performance of the season on Friday evening against Indian River, leading Santa Fe (4-8) past the Pioneers 58-47 on the first day of the Florida Colleges Shootout.  Mousty finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.

The Saints trailed in the early going but grabbed a hold of the lead on the first of two back to back three pointers by Mousty at the 13 minute mark and never looked back.

SF led 30-24 at the half and a strong defensive effort to start the second period stretched the lead out to as many as 12.  IRSC (2-6) scored only two points in the first six minutes of the second half.

“I thought we did a nice job on defense tonight,” said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins.  “We forced a lot of long range shots and rebounded well.”

The Pioneers made just 6-of-20 three pointers and shot 32% from the field.  SF outrebounded IRSC 48-38.

Mousty was the lone Saint in double figures but Desa’Rai Shaw also turned in a solid performance with nine points, six rebounds and three steals.

“Jocelyn had the type of game tonight we know she can give us,” said Stebbins.  “The rest of our post players really made an impact as well.  Brenique [Garment] and Tatianna [Manuel] gave us solid minutes and really rebounded well while they were in.”

The Saints continue in the Florida Colleges Shootout on Saturday, December 7 against Tallahassee CC at 6 p.m.  The game can be seen live on www.ihigh.com/santafesaints
