SF BASEBALL
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints let game one of a double header against South Florida State College slip away but held on in game two to earn a split with the Panthers Saturday afternoon in Avon Park.
Santa Fe (3-5) opened up game one with 10 runs in the first three innings but fell apart defensively, allowing seven unearned runs to spark a SFSC come from behind, 11-10 victory in extra innings.
Roger Gonzalez led the offense, going 3-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI, Jonathan Camp was 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI, Brady Roberson was 2-for-4, Casey Scoggins finished 2-for-4 with a double and Payson Smith was also 2-for-4.
In game two Jake Reimer started on the hill and tossed 6.1 innings to earn the win. Jeremy Graff pitched the final two outs to earn the save in the 6-5 victory.
The Saints had to come from behind to get the double header split after trailing 3-1 through two innings. SF scored two in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the sixth.
The Panthers made things interesting in the seventh, scoring a run to pull it to 6-5 and loaded the bases with just one out. Graf made the pitch he needed in that big spot, getting the SFSC batter to roll one over to the short stop who started the 6-4-3 double play to end the game.
Roberson powered the offense in game two going 3-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI.
The Saints next game is at home on Monday, February 17 against Polk State College at 3:00 PM.
