Beatriz Gonzalez helps design summer workshops for teachers

This article is part of an ongoing series highlighting the accomplishments of SF faculty and staff.

Beatriz Gonzalez has been a full-time instructor at Santa Fe College since 2003. She is very interested in providing a challenging yet fun experience in her biology classes.

Dr. Gonzalez believes that every student is unique, for that reason she likes to teach in different ways. Depending on the semester, course, group of students, or the needs of our college, she has taught using active learning methods, online or hybrid modalities.

Laboratory is crucial in the understanding and application of science, for that reason she has developed laboratory exercises where students are guided to design their own experiments and use technology. She has published and presented in national conferences about biology teaching.

In addition, she is part of a group that designs and facilitates summer training workshops for middle and high school teachers from all over Florida as part of a project sponsored by the Department of Education and Florida State University (FCR-STEMLearn). Dr. Gonzalez sees online education as the new frontier, for that reason, she has attended professional development focusing in online education.
