On Wednesday, March 19, George Semsel will be exploring “China’s Films as Pilgrimage: The Search for the Soul.” The lecture will take place from 5 -6:30 p.m., in WA-104.
Semsel will discuss the rise of Chinese film after the end of the Cultural Revolution, and how the reopening of the country had shaped contemporary artists. He will address how the recent history of Chinese film represents a national, perhaps cultural, movement from the objective and outward toward the subjective and inner expression.
Semsel is an Emeritus Professor of film studies at the Ohio University School of Film.
