Newton Aycliffe graphic designer overcomes setback to win national award

A YOUNG graphic designer who set up his own business after being made redundant has received a national award.

Adam Hill, of Creativehill in Newton Aycliffe, has been awarded a bronze regional headline award at the Scoot Headline Awards

Adam Hill, of Creativehill, a graphic design and photography company in Newton Aycliffe, received a bronze regional headline award at the Scoot Headline Awards.

To receive national recognition is a triumph for any businessman but it was all the greater for Mr Hill, 21, who only set up the company last year.

The former Greenfield Community College pupil was partway through a design course at Sunderland University when he was offered his dream job at a graphic design agency.

After weighing up his options, he decided to take the job and was devastated when the firm went bust a few months later.

“It was a difficult time but I didn’t let it stop me from doing what I want to do,” he said.

“I set up Creativehill in 2011 and used it as a portfolio to take to employers. I thought to myself ‘why don’t I turn this into an actual business?”

Since then, Creativehill, which specialises in branding and websites, has grown from strength to strength.

The Scoot Headline Awards celebrate the achievements of British businesses, large and small.

Mr Hill said: “I am thrilled to receive this award. There are a lot of other agencies out there and in the past I was perhaps seen as the underdog. This award, has given me the opportunity to showcase what I can do.”
