Saints advance to finals of MFC Tournament with 64-38 win

The Santa Fe Saints (16-14) took care of business on Monday night against Florida State College-Jacksonville 64-38 and will now move on to the finals of the Mid-Florida Conference where they will face the College of Central Florida on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

“Defensively we were really good tonight,” said SF Coach Chris Mowry.  “We did a great job on the glass and did enough on offense to get the win.”

Jaquel Taft led SF to their third victory in four games against the Blue Wave, scoring 21 points to go with 15 rebounds.  Morris Marshall also had a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Saints never trailed against FSC-J and didn’t allow a point until the 15:20 mark of the first half.  They led 17-2 over eight minutes into the game and never looked back, cruising to the 26 point win to set up their date with Central Florida.

Santa Fe outrebounded the Blue Wave 42-18, and on the offensive glass dominated 18-3, creating many second chance opportunities.  SF held FSC-J to just 6-for-24 shooting in the second half and allowed only 16 made shots all game.
