Don’t forget, this Thursday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m., Santa Fe College will offer a free performance of Bill Maxwell and Beverly Coyle’s collaborative work, “Parallel Lives” in the E Auditorium. Maxwell and Coyle, both accomplished Florida writers, were among the last generation of black and white Floridians to graduate from segregated schools, to sit in separate sections of the bus and to drink from different water fountains.
In “Parallel Lives” they describe their very different experiences as the son of migrant farmworkers and daughter of a Methodist minister growing up in North Florida in the 1950s and 60s. This autobiographical collaboration provides some historical context for understanding contemporary race relations. Additionally, the authors will moderate a discussion after the performance that will give people a safe space to talk about race, in a way that may be different than they have ever experienced before. Originally produced for the FL Humanities Council, “Parallel Lives” comes to Santa Fe through the generosity of the National Endowment of the Humanities. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
The NEH has also allowed Santa Fe College Fine Arts to reward the Student Organizations with the highest attendance. The organization with the highest number of students in attendance will receive $250 in its Fund 6 Account. The Student Organization with the greatest percentage of its membership will receive $250 in its Fund 6 Account. This could be the same organization.
