A rare event occurs today! Not only is today the first day of classes at Santa Fe College, but Mercury, the swiftest planet in our solar system, will be passing directly between the Earth and Sun. We call this a Transit and the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium at Santa Fe College, in collaboration with the Alachua Astronomy Club will have safe telescopic viewings of the transit between 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016, weather permitting. There will also be short presentations in the planetarium at the top and bottom of each hour discussing the transit.

Admission to the planetarium for the transit presentation and telescopic viewings in the planetarium’s courtyard are free, so take a few minutes out today to join us!
