Pleasant Street Historic District Events This Weekend

pleasant streetVolunteers from the Blount Center will be participating in the Pleasant Street NeighborWorks event.

Service Project: “Keep it Pleasant!”

“Keep it Pleasant!” is a community service project dedicated to preserving and promoting the Pleasant Street Historic District and will take place on Friday, June 10th, from 9-1pm. NHDC canvased the area and identified five homes seeking painting and landscaping repairs. NHDC is partnering with the Gainesville CRA to supply paint and painting supplies through its Residential Paint Voucher Program. The number of projects we are able to complete is dependent on the number of volunteers we are able to secure. Completed projects will be showcased during the final event, “Pleasant in the Park”.

If you are interested in more information on the five homes and/or families, volunteer opportunities, or have landscaping materials to donate, please contact Kayla Ellsworth at 352-380-9119.

Special thanks to the City of Gainesville Planning Division for assisting in the planning of this event.

Community Event: “Pleasant in the Park”

“Pleasant in the Park” is a community celebration and resource fair that will take place on Saturday, June 11 from 10 p.m.-2p.m. This event will include a community cookout, family-friendly activities and a neighborhood resource fair. This is a unique opportunity for local organizations to interact with community members and share information on their programs and services while enjoying a family-friendly celebration – because community is worth celebrating! Activities will include a community scavenger hunt, face painting, photos and more.

The Pleasant Street Historic District has focused community efforts on educating their neighbors on the history of the community. In order to support these efforts, NHDC will use a community scavenger hunt to engage and educate residents on the community’s historic roots. Participants will receive a list of historical landmarks in the community and compete to identify each location on the map. Prizes will be awarded for the first participant to accurately identify all landmarks.

Those interested in hosting a table at this event should fill out the vendor registration form. For anyone interested in volunteering for facilitation of event activities, making a monetary or in-kind donation, or for more information, please contact Kayla Ellsworth at 352-380-9119.
