LATE RUN BY DAYTONA STATE LEADS FALCONS PAST SF, 86-78

Gainesville, Fla. – Playing without sophomore leader Josh Hawkins, the Santa Fe College Saints fought until the end against the top team in the conference, before falling in the final minutes 86-78.

The freshman heavy Saints (14-9, 1-4 MFC) took an early lead over the sophomore led Falcons, going up 8-2 on the strength of two D-Juan Taylor-Hodge three pointers. DSC kept the score close from there and eventually turned it around to take 39-36 lead at the half.

Daytona (20-5, 4-1 MFC) started the second half with the momentum, doubling the lead to six. The Saints slowly fought back, eventually grabbing the lead on two free throws by Taylor-Hidge with 13 minutes to go.

After the 11th tie of the game with 10 minutes to go, Daytona took the lead and didn’t relinquish it, making their last 10 free throws to ice the game.

Taylor-Hodge and David-Lee Jones led Santa Fe with 18 points each, Nick Grier had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Darrell Jones scored 11 points and pulled down 12 boards.

The Saints will hit the road Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. on the road at College of Central Florida.
