Gainesville, Fla. – Avenging an opening day loss, the NJCAA #8/FCSAA #2 Santa Fe Saints pitched their way past the Hillsborough Community College Hawks Wednesday afternoon 3-2. Kyle Morton was lights out on the mound for seven innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six. Troy Bacon did what he does best, tossing two shutout innings for his third save of the season.
The Saints (4-1) took the first lead of the game in the second inning on a RBI single by Leo Rodriguez, following a Dillon Reed double.
In the fifth the Hawks tied the score but in the bottom half of the inning Brandon Hernandez came through with a two out RBI single to give the Saints a 2-1 advantage.
Hillsborough answered in the sixth with an unearned run and SF broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a HCC pass ball.
That’s all the run support Morton (1-0) and Bacon would need as they closed the game out for the Saints fourth straight win.
Santa Fe College will be back in action Friday, Feb. 3, at home against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
