February 9, 2018 – Want to impress your sweetheart by doing something different and fun on Valentine’s Day? Santa Fe College offers the perfect opportunity—to dance the night away with roses and live music provided by the Santa Fe Big Band and student vocalists.
The event is the annual Valentine’s Swing Dance Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, in the lobby of the Fine Arts Hall at the Northwest Campus, 3000 NW 83 Street, Gainesville. Swing dance lessons begin at 6:30 p.m. and the music and dancing begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person and roses are $2. Swing dance is a partner form created by African-American that then evolved with the swing style of jazz music that was popular from the 1920s to the 1950s. The orchestras of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Les Brown are some of the most popular bands of that era.
“Make plans now to join us for a swingin’ good time!” said Santa Fe College Music Professor and Band Director Steve Bingham, Ph.D., who will conduct the musicians.
Finger foods will be available, the SF Photo Club will offer sweetheart photos and there will be a silent auction that benefits Musicians United, the student club that raises funds in support of the college’s music programs. The event is a fundraiser for and is sponsored by Musicians United.
