SF Men’s Basketball: Taylor-Hodge and the Saints Pull Away from FSC-J in the Second Half

February 10, 2018 – Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe College picked up an important Mid-Florida Conference win on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville, turning up the defensive pressure in a 70-43 sin over Florida State College-Jacksonville.

Ten players scored for the Saints, led by 11 from D-Juan Taylor-Hodge and nine from Darrell Jones.  The 43 points allowed is a season best for the SF defense.

Neither team got much going in the first half and Santa Fe led by six, 29-23 at the break.

A run by SF (20-7, 6-3 MFC) to start the second half and continued pressure on the FSC-J offense allowed the Saints to pull away as the half progressed.

The BlueWave shot just 24% from the field and made only 2-of-27 three pointers (7.4%).  Santa Fe’s success at getting to the free throw line and converting was a big difference in the game.  SF outscored FSC-J 23-11 at the charity stripe.

The win moves the Saints to 6-3 in conference play, still within striking distance of first place Eastern Florida (7-2 MFC).  The win was the 20th of the season for the Saints, Coach Chris Mowry’s eighth 20 win season of his Santa Fe career.

The Saints will play a big MFC game on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14 at Daytona State College at 8:00 p.m.
