SF Fastpitch: Saints Defeat Eastern Florida 2-1, Second Game of Double Header a Tie Due to Darkness

February 12, 2018 – Gainesville, FL – Playing at home for the second day in the row, the Santa Fe Saints took on Eastern Florida State College, picking up a win in game one before darkness brought a halt to the second game in the 8th inning with the score tied 4-4.  The game will go in officially as a tie for both teams and will not be finished.

Santa Fe won a pitcher’s duel in game one, using two early runs to defeat the Titans 2-1.  SF had only two hits in the contest, but Emily Yakel’s was a big one when she doubled home two runs in the third.

Jamie Adams and Allison Sievers would combine in the circle to lead the Saints to victory, with Adams getting the win.  She now has a team high 13 RBI through 14 games.

Game two was a back and forth affair with each team holding the lead two or more times.

Wirth the score tied in the eighth, EFSC plated a run to grab a 4-3 advantage.  In the bottom of the eighth, with darkness creeping in, Sophia Negron scored on a Titan error to knot the score back up.

Before starting the top of the ninth, the umpires decided that it was too dark to continue playing, in the interest of player safety.

The Saints qill be back at home on Tuesday, February 13 when Tallahassee CC comes to town for a 2:00 p.m. double header.
