SF International Education Hosts Guest Lecturer on Human Cost of Conflict in Ukraine

January 21, 2020 – Santa Fe College’s International Education will host Dr. Anna Ageicheva, who will give a presentation on the human cost of the conflict in Ukraine. The presentation will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in Building S, Room 29.

In March 2014, Russia occupied Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula. The following month, an armed conflict erupted between Ukraine and Russian-backed separatists in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. Over 13,000 Ukrainians have died in the conflict during the last five years and thousands more have been left injured and maimed. The toll of war has been felt by everyone in the country. Ukrainians long for peace, freedom from Russian interference, territorial integrity, economic prosperity and democracy.

Dr. Ageicheva is a visiting scholar from Poltava National Technical University in Ukraine. In her presentation, she explains the many ways this conflict has impacted the lives of ordinary Ukrainians throughout the country.
