Times Talk for Faculty and Staff – Democracy Under Siege

January 13, 201 – The events that transpired in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, Jan. 6, have left many of us stunned and at a loss for words. Others have been yearning for an opportunity to discuss these events with peers.  Was the attack on the Capitol a mere protest, an insurrection or a coup d’etat? Who should be held accountable?  How can we explain the notable difference between how the police and national guard responded to protestors on Jan. 6, 2021, and how they responded to Black Lives Matter protestors in August 2020?  As the U.S. House of Representatives moves to impeach President Trump for a second time and protestors prepare to engulf both Washington, D.C. and several state capitals on Jan. 20, we invite faculty and staff to join us for this Times Talk event today – Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 3:30 p.m. – to debate the state of our American democracy. Our hope is that by engaging each other in an open, respectful and civil dialogue, we will contribute to the strengthening of our democratic society and government. Please join this event via Zoom at sfcollege.zoom.us/j/94037454125.
