Benefits for Students: Internet Access and SNAP

Emergency Broadband Benefit
Pell Grant recipients meet the eligibility requirements for this benefit. The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households. Students can go to https://www.fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit to apply.
SNAP Benefits
The American Rescue Plan Act temporarily allows more students to qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds to purchase food.
Students may be eligible if they

  • have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of “0” on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
  • Are eligible for the federal work study program, whether they have a work study position or not; or
  • meet the criteria for student exemptions under standard SNAP guidelines.
