Boo at the Zoo A Huge Success

Boo at the Zoo A Huge Success

The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo hosted Boo at the Zoo on Oct. 31, 2022, following a two-year absence because of the pandemic. A total of 5,627 non-perishable items were collected from the 5,423 trick-or-treaters who attended.

November 3, 2022 – The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo would like to thank the entire community for celebrating the 26th Annual Boo at the Zoo. During the Halloween event, the zoo collected 5,627 non-perishable food items for Catholic Charities of Gainesville and Saints Food Share at SF. The donations will help community members in need this upcoming holiday season.

Within the SF community, Allied Health donated the most candy, with 3,432 pieces, with the Math Department a close second with 3,077 pieces. Overall, more than 70,000 pieces of candy were given out to trick or treaters during the event.

A huge thanks goes out to SF Saints women’s basketball, volleyball and softball teams for organizing games, and Sarah Blanc with Civic Engagement for organizing volunteers to assist with food collection.

Special thanks to the Zooies for the tremendous amount of time and effort put into transforming the zoo and giving their all to their characters the entire night. Judges had an incredibly tough time determining a winner, but Willy Wonka walked away with best area, and Mario Kart won the first ever guest vote for best area!

The SF Teaching Zoo family thanks everyone for their support and are looking forward to next year and the 27th annual Boo at the Zoo.
