SF Maintains Status as a First-Gen Forward Institution

September 1, 2023 – Santa Fe College has received continuing designation as a First-Gen Forward Institution from NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and The Suder Foundation. A First-Gen Forward designation recognizes higher education institutions for demonstrating a commitment to recruiting and retaining first-generation college students. First-generation college students are students whose parents or legal guardians have not completed a bachelor’s degree.

SF originally received the designation in March of 2022, and has held a number of outreach events focused on the unique experiences of first-generation college students including orientation events and a celebration in honor of First-Gen students in which President Broadie issued a proclamation for First-Gen Day. The college also issued a survey to employees to help identify which employees were also the first in their families to attend college.

The college will continue to hold events for first-generation college students and provide the resources necessary for them – and all students to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
