Changes to Student Access for SF Accounts

Changes to Student Access for SF Accounts

December 6, 2023 – Some Santa Fe College students may run into difficulties accessing their SF accounts including email and Canvas. The changes, implemented by Microsoft, no longer use a student’s phone number or email as the primary method for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

Microsoft is using the Microsoft Authenticator app as the primary method for students to access their SF accounts. As we enter the spring term, all SF students will need to use Microsoft’s authentication systems to access their SF accounts.

This past fall, MFA was implemented for all college employees. The college had anticipated rolling MFA out to students in the summer of 2024, however the changes at Microsoft have caused the college to start the process for students immediately. Students can learn more about the process SF employees used from this newSFeed articlehttps://news.sfcollege.edu/2022/09/06/multi-factor-authentication-for-all-sf-accounts-coming-sept-23/.

If a student encounters this issue accessing their account during the winter break, all they will have to do is download the Microsoft Authenticator app onto their cellphone, then follow the prompts provided to access their SF accounts.

If you do not have a cellphone and you see the Microsoft Authenticator message

You will temporarily be able to access your SF accounts, however all students will need to use Microsoft’s authentication systems to access their SF accounts beginning this spring.
